An Invitation from UH Chancellor Leon Richards Ph.D

This is a dream come true for me. Thanks to my school for the recognition; for the support of my teachers, the camaraderie of my classmates, they all made this possible. So thanks to all, and to God be the glory!

Re: An Invitation from Chancellor Richards to join KCC’s Honor Society

Dear Sabiniana Balagtas Baliba:

Congratulations on your excellent academic record. Your scholastic
performance may make you eligible for participation in the two parts
of Honors Education at the college: The Honors Curriculum Program and
the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of the Two-Year
College.

The Honors Curriculum Program was established in spring 1986 to
provide enriched learning experiences for high-achieving students.
The program allows students to create opportunities for stimulating
course work each semester. As a participant in the Honors Curriculum
Program, you will have the opportunity to interact with other honors
students, and you will have the chance to help design your course work
through options available only to Honors Program participants. If you
complete the program you will receive distinction at graduation and
have permanent recognition on your transcript.

Phi Theta Kappa is the international scholastic honor society for
two-year college students. Kapi‘olani Community College’s chapter,
Alpha Kappa Psi, is an award-winning chapter, having distinguished
itself at both the regional and international levels. Members of Phi
Theta Kappa actively strive to fulfill the four hallmarks of the
society, Leadership, Scholarship, Service and Fellowship, by
organizing and participating in a variety of projects to implement the
goals of the program. Phi Theta Kappa activities are designed to give
members opportunities for personal growth and encourage students to
become well-rounded individuals. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa helps
students to build records of achievement for scholarships, job
applications and acceptance into universities. Being part of the
honor society can make your college experience more valuable,
meaningful and exciting.

I encourage you to attend an orientation session for additional
information and to receive application forms for both the Honors
Curriculum Program and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. You will meet
Suyin Phillips, Honors Education Coordinator, at
these sessions. She will explain more about the programs and will
answer any questions. You will receive a separate email in the next
week containing orientation session details.

I look forward to seeing you enroll in honors courses and the Phi
Theta Kappa activities. By taking advantage of these programs, you
can be among the honor graduates and also wear the Phi Theta Kappa
distinctive gold stole and tassel at commencement. Congratulations on
establishing the fine academic record that makes this possible.

Sincerely,

Leon Richards Ph.D.
Chancellor
